Okonomiyaki

iPhone 3gS

Ako ste ikada bili u Japanu sigurno ste probali njihovo tradicionalno jelo okonomiyaki. Ako niste bili u Japanu a čitali ste knjigu Amélie Nothomb "Ni Evina ni Adamova" sigurno ste barem dobili želju probati to jelo.

Zagrijte tavu koju ste prethodno lagano nauljili. Žlicom zagrabite okonomiyaki smjesu te ju stavite na tavu i raširite okrugli oblik debljine oko 1,2 do 1,5 cm. Kada mjehurići zraka prodirati u sredini okonomiyakia, preokrenite ga lopaticom i pržite još neko vrijeme lagano pritišćući smjesu lopaticom.

If you've ever been to Japan you've certainly tried their traditional dish okonomiyaki. If you have'nt been to Japan and have read the book by Amélie Nothomb "Tokyo Fiancée" (French: Ni d'Ève ni d'Adam) surely you got the desire to try this dish. The recipe is fairly simple cause all the ingredients you either have in your kitchen or they are easy to obtain. Below is our version of a okonomiyaki recipe cause  there are several versions of the dish in Japan, most famous being the ones from Hiroshima and Osaka.

Ingredients for one pancake : Cooked bacon 2-3strips cut into small pieces, Cabbage 3/4 cup shredded, A few prawns, Baking powder 1 teaspoon, Cake flour 4 tablespoons, Salt 1/6 teaspoon, Chopped green onion 1/2 cup, Water 3 tablespoons, 1 Egg.

Okonomiyaki Sauce: Mix together 3 tablespoons Ketchup, 1 teaspoon Soy sauce, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce.

Okonomiyaki Toppings: 1 tablespoon Mayonnaise.

Mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder and sift. Gently mix in the water. Next, add all the remaining ingredients and mix them together thoroughly. Heat the griddle (or frying pan) and lightly oil. Spoon the okonomiyaki mixture on the griddle and spread it into a round shape about 1.2 to 1.5 cm thick. When air bubbles start to rise in the middle of the okonomiyaki, turn it over with a spatula and fry while pressing down on it slightly until done. Spread the sauce over the okonomiyaki, top with mayonnaise if you like (I didn't). The okonomiyaki is now ready to eat.
